Connections of Dead Cat Bounce NZ advised that in the days subsequent to the race it was revealed that the mare was suffering from a virus. Dean Molander, representing trainer Nicole Molander, added that other runners within the stable were also displaying similar signs and indicated that those horses also along with Dead Cat Bounce NZ would be treated accordingly.

Race 8 - DJA DJA WURRUNG CUP
James Herbertson, driver of Chief Safari, was questioned in relation to the driving tactics adopted between the 1400m and 1200m, were after beginning well from barrier 4 and being able to find a position in the running line, Mr Herbertson directed Chief Safari into a three wide position and improved around the field. Chief Safari was then unsuccessful in obtaining the lead of Top The Ace (Brad Chisholm) leaving the 1200m. Mr Herbertson explained that after shortly after the start Chief Safari had a tendency to hang out and raced in close proximity to Mia From Memphis racing to its outside. Mr Herbertson advised that in his opinion after settling in a two wide position the speed of the race only seemed moderate, therefore Mr Herbertson elected to direct his drive three wide and attempt to gain the lead off Top The Ace. Mr Herbertson further added the Mr Chisholm driving Top The Ace became aware that Chief Safari was improving and therefore quickened and was able to withstand the brief challenge from Chief Safari leaving the 1200m. Mr Herbertson added that once being unable to gain the lead his drive began to over race and raced on level terms with Top The Ace, despite the efforts of Mr Herbertson to attempt to restrain. He further explained that due to Chief Safari over-racing he activated the off-side hopple shortener pin with his right foot, due to being unable to cross his reins and activate the gear when assessing the racing manners of Chief Safari. Given the challenge racing towards the 1200m from Chief Safari and then the racing manners of the gelding, stewards did not feel the tactics of Mr Herbertson to be blameworthy and recorded his comments.
James Herbertson, driver of Chief Safari, was fined $100 under Rule 170 (1) for allowing his left foot to drop from the sulky footrest in the home straight on the final occasion. In assessing this matter the panel was mindful of the available footage and the length of time the left foot of Mr Herbertson was placed out of the footrest.
