Outstanding New South Wales filly
Self Denial will assume favouritism when the richest juvenile race in this part
of the world is staged at Geelong?s Beckley Park tomorrow night.
The $300,000 Australian Gold 2YO Fillies Final heads an
historic Anzac Day Eve program with the event being held outside a capital city
for the first time.
Trained by former Bendigo girl Sonia
Mahar (pictured), 24, Self Denial heads South with a big reputation and
record to match with three wins from only four outings.
In a star studded line-up of the
best credentialed youngsters from throughout the country, the impressive Sydney
heat winner looks well placed from barrier two over the flying mile.
Outstanding fillies Blushing
Lombo and Shes Royalty share the second line of betting and are set to figure
prominently.
Both scored easy heat wins, have drawn
side by side on the front row and will be driven by multiple Gold winning
reinsman John Caldow and Chris Alford.
Shes Royalty has thrived since
joining the Jayne Davies stable from WA and was a certainty beaten in the first
round of heats before atoning in authoritative fashion at Moonee Valley last
week.
Blushing Lombo is yet another
success story from the Great Western stable of Peter Manning who transforms
former WA bred juveniles into top class racehorses with monotonous regularity.
The Andrew Gath trained Yada Yada
Yada hasn't finished further back than second in five trips to the races and
would have been the popular elect if not for her horror second row draw.
On a night's racing which is
littered with feature events the K-Rock Cup looks a battle between Sharp and
the in-form mare Miss Downs.
Both pacers should enjoy
favourable trips with Sharp the likely leader from the inside barrier with Miss
Downs drawn to follow him through from the inside of the second row and relish
the trail.
Champion Victorian mare Sassy
Sarah fellow 4YO mares Mindful and Pretty Inpink in the Carlton Draught Mares
Classic.
Sassy Sarah has won four of her
six outings this season and will strip fitter for her first up effort behind
Nolarama at Cranbourne three weeks ago.
Brian Gath?s drive Right And Left
looks the best bet on the program when he lines up in the K-Rock 3YO Pace.
The son of Fake Left was well in
commission when unplaced in his debut in stronger company at Moonee Valley last
week and only needs an ounce of luck from his inside second row draw to score.
