Lisa Crocker to emulate famous brother

ALTHOUGH the task at hand is arduous to say the least, Lisa Crocker has been given every possible chance via the barrier draw to emulate a feat of her famous brother.

Drawn to gain an ideal passage from the pole, Lisa Crocker is engaged in one of Saturday night’s Southern Cross Finals – a feature Major Crocker captured in 2014.

The daughter of Art Major will contest the three-year-old fillies’ division at Globe Derby, with Major Crocker’s victory coming at the same age against the ‘boys’.

Owner Gary Crocker hopes the similarities are an omen for the Vince Vallelonga-trained youngster.

“She will need more than her luck even from the draw, but she’s in it, so we’ll just hope for the best,” Crocker said. “Given her opposition and where she is at in her career, I will be thrilled if she can run a placing.

“The ability is there, but she is still very green and learning what it is all about.

“She’s still a maiden, but is stepping up to A-grade this time.”

Named after Crocker’s daughter, Lisa Crocker’s opposition includes defending champion, Our Celebrity, which is listed at $1.20 after drawing to lead throughout from five.

Successful in her heat when first-up for 11 months, the daughter of Mach Three is an Emma Stewart-trained stablemate of Perfect Look, which also scored in her qualifier.

Perfect Look, also by Art Major, has drawn the second row.

“It’s hard to see Emma’s two being beaten,” Crocker said. “They are both very nice fillies which are in top form.

“Like I said, this is a big step up for my filly, and if she can run a placing, I’ll be over the moon.”
