Boom Victorian pacer San Carlo will remain in his home state.

Connections were considering a hit/run mission of the Gr.1 $200,000 UBET Blacks A Fake at Albion Park on July 15 but a series of cancellations have forced their hand.

Trainer Steve O’Donoghue and driver Bec Bartley were hopeful of gaining a start in the Leo Crameri at Maryborough on June 22 before a lack of nominations forced the cancellation of the event while the same situation has unfolded this weekend at Kilmore.

San Carlo was never nominated for the Popular Alm Sprint, the feature this Saturday night at Kilmore but he was nominated for another event on the same card over more distance in preparation for the Blacks A Fake.

The Mach Three six-year-old gelding has won 14 of his 16 starts.

Richly talented three-year-old Astride didn’t make the cut for the Queensland Derby.

Rather, he has faced another cut of a different variety.

Following his disappointing effort last start effort when 10th in the New South Wales Breeders Challenge semi-final at TABCORP Park, Menangle on June 17, connections decided to have him gelded.

The Somebeachsomewhere – Pearl Stride pacer went under the knife last Friday and will now spell.

The $75,000 Queensland Derby is slated for July 15.

Former New Zealand three-year-old pacers Cowboys N Aliens and Bettor Vision are both being considered for the Queensland Derby after fighting out the finish at Menangle on Tuesday.

Cowboys N Aliens defeated Bettor Vision in a time of 1:55.0 while zipping home the last sectional in 26.2 seconds.

The Gr.3 $30,500 Provincial Derby will be staged next week followed by the $75,000 Queensland Derby the following week.

*****

Talented Bathurst three-year-old Pretty Hot is another Queensland Derby candidate.

Owner/breeder Lex Crosby is keen to contest the $75,000 feature on July 15 following his recent efforts during the New South Wales Breeders Challenge series.

Pretty Hot ran a respectable 5th behind Vincent in a time of 1:50.2 after leading from the outside gate.

The Courage Under Fire gelding has won 3 races while being placed on another 14 occasions from 26 starts to date while banking more than $44,000.

Pretty Hot is part of the Bernie Hewitt stable.

Park Life, a last start winner of the 2016 Gr.1 Australian Pacing Gold Fillies Final at TABCORP Park, Menangle won’t be ready for the Queensland Oaks next week.

The Rock N Roll Heaven filly finished at the rear of the field in a trial on Tuesday at Albion Park in her first public outing following her triumph in Sydney last season.

The trial was won by Eleniark in a time of 1:55.5.

Connections were hopeful of being ready for the Oaks features during the winter carnival but time has beaten them.

Park Life will have another couple of trials before looking to kick-start her three-year-old campaign.

*****

Perthville trainer Chris Frisby heads to Queensland this week.

A regular visitor during the winter months, Frisby will once again be based on the Tweed coast during his northern campaign.

Frisby will bring north a team of six pacers.

Stable star Our Uncle Sam is currently in Melbourne vying for a spot in the Gr.1 $120,000 Vicbred Super Series three-year-old Final next week at TABCORP Park, Melton.

A start in the Queensland Derby hasn’t been completely ruled out at this stage.

*****

Queensland owned juvenile Squire will remain in work and chase the Breeders Blue series in the coming weeks.

Purchased by Redcliffe based Heath Stoodly from the stables of Christchurch horseman Mark Jones, the Somebeachsomewhere colt finished 8th behind Ignatius in the Gr.1 New South Wales Breeders Challenge Final last Sunday at Menangle in a record time of 1:51.3.

Squire has been placed in two of his three starts to date.

The talented pacer is currently being prepared by Kerryann Turner and Robbie Morris.

*****

Gr.2 QBRED Triad winner Clintal Do will miss the remainder of the winter carnival.

The Dawn Ofa New Day gelding has succumbed to hoof issues and trainer Wayne Graham has decided to give the talented three-year-old a break.

Clintal Do was the beaten favourite in the Redcliffe Derby on June 2 won by Paternity Suit.

Stablemate Jossie James is a notable omission from the Listed $25,500 Egmont Park Stud Provincial Oaks at Albion Park this Saturday night.

The proven feature race winning filly was a scratching last week owing to a virus and hasn’t completely recovered.

Both Clintal Do and Jossie James are raced by their breeders, Trevor and Louise O’Reilly.

*****

Last start Albion Park track record breaker Our Dainty Lady has returned to the Sydney stables of former trainer Jarrod Alchin.

Our Dainty Lady rated 2:00.5 for the 2647m stand at her most recent start on June 17.

Connections feel she is better suited in Sydney given her handicap rating but will return later this season in readiness for the breeding season.

The Pegasus Spur – Pride Of Petite mare starts this Saturday night at TABCORP Park, Menangle.

*****

The Darrel Graham stable has been boosted by a number of New Zealand arrivals recently.

Joining his Fernvale stable are Ultimate Fella and Culley Backy while Franco Totem is another recent purchase.

All three pacers are loosely assessed and should provide plenty of fun for their respective connections.

*****

Speedy pacer Bells Beach House has been switched to the stables of Victorian horseman Mattie Craven.

The Art Major gelding ran a bold race last Saturday night at Albion when second behind The Space Invader in a time of 1:54.2 for 2138m after leading.

Bells Beach House is the winner of 17 races while banking $100,000.

*****

Handy pacer Jango Fett has joined the stables of Vicki Rasmussen and Shane Graham.

The former New Zealand pacer was previously prepared by Shane and Lauren Tritton in Sydney where he enjoyed good success.

The Western Ideal gelding is the winner of 10 races while earning more than $60,000 in stakes.
