Oaks Mission: Takara Truffle is headed to Brisbane for Winter Carnival features

Exciting three-year-old filly Takara Truffle is headed to Brisbane chasing winter carnival riches in the coming weeks.

Prepared by Singleton horseman Aaron Goadsby, the New Zealand bred filly is being set for a raft of features including the ultimate prize of the Queensland Oaks at Albion Park on July 8.

A winner of 7 races from 12 attempts, the American Ideal filly will head north in an effort to land a few support features before the main target.

Takara Truffle has not raced since finishing 6th behind star New Zealand filly Partyon in the Gr.1 New South Wales Oaks at TABCORP Park, Menangle on February 25 but indicated a return was imminent following a stylish trial at Newcastle last night (Wednesday).

The 1609m workout proved easy for the filly, winning comfortably in a time of 2:01.7 while finishing off in a closing split of 28.4 seconds.

“It was a nice effort, it was her first hit-out following the Oaks in Sydney and she went across the line under restraint so it’s a nice start point for her latest campaign.” Goadsby said.

Takara Truffle will be set for the Redcliffe features, the Derby followed by the Oaks.

The $20,000 features are scheduled for June 2 and 9.

The $25,000 Provincial Oaks at Albion Parks is slated for July 1 while the $75,000 Queensland Oaks is the week later.

“Being a New Zealand purchase, we don’t have any sires stakes based schemes to consider so the Queensland carnival fits into her schedule nicely and we have a number of good opportunities to focus on.

“This filly has done a really good job since crossing the Tasman and the best is still to come hopefully, she enjoyed her break and has come back in really good order. I’ve been keeping an eye out on the local fillies up there and hopefully we can match it with them.

“The Queensland Oaks is the main target but if we can pick-up some spending money along the way, which will be a nice bonus. Her efforts in the NSW Oaks series were very good, running second in the heat before pulling too hard in the final.”

The 2017 Queensland winter carnival starts on June 2 and runs right through until July 21.
