Racing Queensland will monitor the outcome of a criminal investigation which has resulted in charges of match fixing being laid against a 46- year-old harness racing participant from Warwick and a 27-year-old harness racing participant from Limestone Ridges.
While not commenting on the case itself Racing Queensland CEO Eliot Forbes applauded the work of the Queensland Racing Crime Squad and the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC).
“Since they began operating in July last year QRIC and all those attached to the independent statutory body have performed a very important function.
“Integrity and the welfare of racing animals and participants are critical issues in ensuring we have the best possible racing jurisdiction in Australia.
“The vast majority of people involved in harness racing in Queensland are honest, hard-working individuals driven by their passion for the sport. We are working with them to ensure the code continues to grow in popularity and has the infrastructure needed to sustain that growth.”
