New Chairman of Stewards

HRSA wishes to formally announce that Ross Neal has been appointed as the new Chairman of Stewards for Harness Racing SA. The appointment follows a detailed and thorough process undertaken by the selection panel.

Mr Neal is a highly experienced steward from New Zealand with an involvement spanning over 20 years. Initially starting as a race day steward in 1996, he graduated through the ranks including as a Senior Stipendiary Steward and Investigator and culminating as Co-Chief Stipendiary Steward for all New Zealand racing including thoroughbreds, harness and greyhounds.

In total he has attended as a panellist or chaired over 1000 race meetings in all codes, including chairing all major thoroughbred race meetings in New Zealand including the Auckland Cup, New Zealand Cup and Wellington Cup.

He was also instrumental in making major reforms in animal welfare, injury reporting, and race sample collection, as well as establishing best practice models including a more consultative and inclusive approach for industry participants and officials.

 Mr Neal will be commencing with HRSA on Thursday 4 May 2017.
