REIGNING Australian Horse of the Year Lennytheshark grabbed a number of titles with his recent Menangle victory.

Along with becoming the 50th Miracle Mile champion, “Lenny” – as he is affectionately known – is now the richest Australian-bred entire.

Boasting 32 wins and 24 placings from 61 starts, Lennytheshark stretched his bankroll to $2,560,890, which also makes him the highest earning entire in Australasia, passing New Zealand’s Terror To Love for the Southern Hemisphere title and Shakamaker for the Australian crown.

Former champion Blacks A Fake – an Australian-bred gelding - heads the all-comers list with earnings of $4,575,456.

Lennytheshark is second behind Blacks A Fake as the top Australian bred earner, followed closely by Smolda with earnings of $2,407,238.

Although trained on the Shaky Isles, Smolda was bred in Victoria before being purchased by Mark Purdon at the Melbourne Australian Pacing Gold Sale.

Shakamaker comes in at number four thanks to his $2,229,634, followed by Beautide with earnings of $2,183,132.

Westburn Grant, who retired as the then richest entire in 1993, sits at sixth with a healthy $2,074,916.

Interestingly, the top half dozen Australians are all Inter Dominion winners.

HOOFNOTE: Although he just sits outside the top 10, Karloo Mick holds a unique record among the rich as the only millionaire never to win a Group One!
