FOR those thinking of an excuse to attend tomorrow’s Ladbrokes Australian Pacing Gold Yearling Sale, how does 190,503 reasons sound?
That’s how much APG graduate Vincent has bankrolled from 11 starts, with his win including tonight’s New South Wales Derby at Tabcorp Park Melton.
Vincent was purchased at the 2015 Sydney sale, with 200 great lots to enter the same ring at the Newmarket Sales complex, at Young Street in Randwick in the morning.
As for Vincent, the Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen-trained son of Art Major led from the pole before Purdon elected to take a trail behind stablemate Ultimate Machete with Rasmussen holding the reins.
Gaining a clear passage halfway along the home straight, Vincent unleashed a strong sprint to score by a metre from the pacemaker, with Motu Meteor completing a stable trifecta when nine-and-a-half metres away.
“We’ve always had a pretty big opinion of him and he’s living up to that,” Purdon said. “We picked him out of the Australian Pacing Gold here in Sydney as there was plenty to like about him.
“We’ll be there again tomorrow and hope to find one just as good.”
From former top mare Kept For Pleasure, the three-year-old boasts nine wins and a second from 11 starts, with his missed placing the result of a busted wheel after travelling 500 metres in the Victoria Derby last month.
