Grins Rendition and Monique Burnett after their Warragul win.
Ten-year-old pacer Grins Rendition has found a new lease of life, with a track record equalling victory at the Warragul Pacing Bowl on Wednesday afternoon.
Trained by Point Cook horseman Ron Comben, Grins Rendition made it two wins on end, sweeping home to claim race favourite Wow Shes Smooth on Wednesday in the fifth race.
The mile rate of 1min 57.2secs equals the mark set by Ymbro Toto in January last year.
Grins Rendition has raced on 169 occasions for 23 victories, and was driven on Wednesday by Monique Burnett.
Gippsland trainer Gary Quinlan collected a double on Wednesday.
Professor Tom won the fourth event at his first race start since August last year, when unplaced in the rich Breeders Crown Final.
Owned by Warragul Harness Racing Club committeeman Grant Rathjen, who missed being on track to see his horse win, Professor Tom should win further races, based on the strength of Wednesday's success.
Gavin Lang combined with Gary Quinlan in the final race to score with Courageous Call.
Raced by a local syndicate managed by former Warragul HRC President Len Petch, punters who took very short odds about Courageous Call had cause for concern in the last lap when the horse was hemmed away on the inside.
The gaps appeared at the right time for premier reinsman Gavin Lang, who eased the favourite into the clear upon straightening, and onto an easy victory.
Talented young reinsman Darby McGuigan collected two wins on Wednesday's program.
In the first event, McGuigan drove a well judged race behind Run Myles Run to claim victory.
Trained at South Oakleigh by past Gippsland Harness Training Centre graduate Alan Ratnasingham, Run Myles Run has won two races on end, and four overall, from 72 starts.
McGuigan also partnered Captain Bronzie to win the seventh race at long odds.
Captain Bronzie had won at the previous Warragul meeting on January 18.
Skye horseman Ray Matthews has been patient with his trotter Supplements, which won its first race on Wednesday at start 23.
Able to lead throughout in the handicap event, the well named Supplements (by American sire Muscle Mass), held off local Slancio to claim a well earned maiden win.
Sunbury trainer Ahmed Taiba produced Jiven Jerry to win race two, the six-year-old gelding scoring his first win since February 2015.
Father and son Gary and Craig Hoban also went away winners on the day, with their filly Dolly Mach Lombo winning the three-year-old event, a maiden win at start 15.
Warragul trots return on Wednesday, March 15.
