The Executive of Harness Racing Australia (HRA) considered reaction to the decision to ban the use of whips in racing at its meeting in Melbourne last Friday.

“There has been a great deal of positive reaction to the ban since the announcement was made in December”, HRA Chairman, Mr Geoff Want said.  “Nonetheless there has also been significant opposition from segments of the industry”.

The Executive carefully considered the various views communicated since the announcement, and decided to engage in further consultation with industry participants as a priority, before finalising plans for the implementation of whip free racing on 1 September 2017.
