AS HAS been the case Australia-wide during the past five days, it didn’t take long for one Tasmania’s leading ladies to kick-start the tally as part of the Women’s Cancer Foundation’s Team Teal campaign.
Along with gaining public awareness for such as serious cause, the campaign raises valuable funds to aid the search for a cure and better treatment.
Following the previous success of the campaign, this year’s ‘drive’ has gone national, with Natalee Emery piloting the first winner in her state in the first race since the fundraising started.
The Teal Pants campaign will run from February 1 until March 11, with the final night coinciding with the Breed for Speed night and Gala Dinner at Melton.
Albion Park will also host a special Gala Dinner on the same night, with the teal pants program coinciding with Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
As a result of Emery scoring with Pushkin at Launceston just moments ago, Tasracing will donate $200 to the total, which the governing body will add to following every win by a local reinswoman during the next six weeks.
“I am thrilled to get the first win in Tasmania for such an amazing cause,” Emery said. “It is a terrific initiative and I am just proud to be a part of it.”
Emery was also quick to praise premier trainer Ben Yole for her success.
“I wouldn’t normally drive Pushkin, but Ben has put me down to drive him and a few of his horses tonight to try and help with the fundraising,” Emery explained.
“It is a great effort from Ben in that as he is doing his bit to help the ladies raise money.”
