Leah Harvey proud to be part of the Teal Pants campaign

A THRILLED Leah Harvey has kick-started South Australia’s tally for the Women’s Cancer Foundation’s Team Teal campaign with a win at Globe Derby last night.

Following the previous success of the campaign, this year’s ‘drive’ has gone national, with Harvey piloting the initial winner in her state.

Reinswomen throughout Australia will don teal pants in every race they compete leading up to March 11, which doubles as the Breed for Speed night and Gala Dinner at Melton.

Albion Park will also host a special Gala Dinner on the same night, with the teal pants program coinciding with Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

Thanks to Harvey’s skill in the sulky, Harness Racing SA has donated $100 to the total, which the governing body will add to following every win by a reinswoman during the next six weeks.

As a sensational gesture, Ubet will double the figure, with South Australia predicted to raise around $6000.

“To drive any win for the cause, let alone the first one is fabulous,” Harvey said. “I remember Jodi Quinlan championing the cause in Victoria a couple of years ago and wanted SA to step up to the plate.

“Now as part of the cause being Australia wide they have stepped up and it is tremendous.

“I am delighted to be a part of it and hopefully will get a few more winners before it finishes.”

Harvey’s victory behind Magic Trump was the first of three wins by the state’s leading ladies, with Lisa Ryan successful with Caribbean Crest and Angela Chapman triumphant with Sally Maclennane.

As such, the first meeting of the campaign has netted $600 towards the national total, which has passed $6000 after just three days.
