National 'drive' for Women's Cancer Foundation - Ovarian Cancer Institute

31 January 2017 | Paul Courts

IN AN amazing display of generosity and compassion, every reinswoman in Australia is poised to play an integral role in raising awareness and valuable funds for a worthy cause.

Following the previous success of the Women’s Cancer Foundations Team Teal campaign, this year’s ‘drive’ has gone national.

Beginning tomorrow, reinswomen will don teal pants in every race they compete leading up to March 11, which doubles as the Breed for Speed night and Gala Dinner at Melton.

Albion Park will also host a special Gala Dinner on the same night, with the teal pants program coinciding with Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

Harness Racing Australia Executive made the decision to nationalise the campaign following a presentation by co-founder Michael Taranto in Perth last month.

Established in 1996, the Women’s Cancer Foundation has raised millions of dollars to fund researchers looking for more effective ways to treat and care for women suffering with ovarian cancer.

It is predicted close to 1500 Australian women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2017, with an estimated 70 per cent to lose their battle.

After tragedy struck his family when his wife Lyn succumbed to ovarian cancer in 2010, prominent industry identity Duncan McPherson established the Lyn McPherson Memorial Breed For Speed Trotting Mares Series six years ago.

McPherson’s passion and hard work on behalf of the Women’s Cancer Foundation – Ovarian Cancer Institute saw him awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2014.

Watch this space for the 2017 Team Teal news, ambassadors, updates, how your state is contributing, and how you can help raise funds for this important cause.
