A DROP in class has made life extremely difficult for well-performed trotter Pocketfullofcash.

While that sounds somewhat back-to-front, Pocketfullofcash faces a daunting 50-metre handicap at Globe Derby tomorrow night.

The squaregaiter’s back mark can be largely attributed to his South Australia Trotters’ Cup victory three weeks ago.

On that occasion, the Paul Fidge-trained gelding worked to the lead from the front line before cruising to an impressive Group Two triumph.

This time around, Pocketfullofcash will line up against country-front opposition over 2645 metres.

“He has had a bit of a freshen up since the Cup and feels terrific” Fidge said. “I couldn’t be happier with his condition.

“Coming off 50 metres makes it pretty tough though, but he is at his best and will still go close.

“If it was over 2200 metres he would really struggle, but the longer trip will help a little.”

Following his pending engagement, Pocketfullofcash will be aimed at next week’s Fred Jones Trotters Cup.

Should the son of Bancoora Left race up to expectations, he will then be targeted at the Kilmore Trotters’ Cup on March 18.

“There are a few good options for him during the next couple of months,” Fidge said. “Providing he can hold his form there is also the Gawler Hambletonian, Mildura Cup and Gramel.”
