Return: Promising 3yo Key Largo makes his return on Tuesday afternoon at Albion Park Photo by Dan Costello
Team Dux could be on the move.
The internationally experienced stable has found themselves a pair of exciting three-year-old pacers in the shape of Newport Dreamz and Key Largo.
Newport Dreamz scored a destructive victory at Albion Park yesterday (Friday) in his second run back from a break while the unbeaten Key Largo resumes on Tuesday afternoon at Albion Park.
Both could be headed to Victoria early in the New Year.
“We like both horses; they’re vastly different types of horses but both have good ability and the Victoria Derby is an attractive option for both if they continue to step up. Newport Dreamz has now had two runs back and he’s continuing to improve while the other bloke has won both of his trials and a forward showing is expected next week.” Trainer/driver Mark Dux said.
Ironically, the last time the stable campaigned interstate was to Victoria for the 2008 Inter Dominion series with the talented pacer Maximillion for owners Kevin and Kay Seymour.
The Dux stable comprises of Mark, Kerry, Stephen and Mick while Mark’s daughter Madi is also an integral part of the stable and shares driving duties on race day with her father.
And the stable rarely goes by without a talented type in the stable.
“We haven’t ventured too far from home in recent years but we believe both of the horses are worth the trip, we’ve deliberately given both plenty of time and they’re now repaying the faith. They’ve both been talented types from the very start so we just put the brakes on early and allowed them to grow and mature.
“Newport Dreamz is fast and he’s just as strong, he really developed quickly towards the end of last season. We missed the QBRED Triad but landed the consolation instead, we weren’t really aiming at that race but he gave us little option because of his improvement. He’s as good as any in his division up here.
“Key Largo is very fast but he’s talking a little longer to get it all worked out, I was thrilled with what he did last season because that was on raw ability. He’s a good size and he’s still developing so I like what the future holds for him. He’s Vicbred so it’s important he heads south too, at this stage we’ll look at the Derby for both but it’s not guaranteed for both.”
Key Largo resumes in the Burwood Stud Pace over the 1660m on Tuesday where he starts from gate five and takes on older rivals for the first time.
Key Largo is a graduate of the Australian Pacing Gold where he was purchased by the stable at the Melbourne division of the sales for an amount of $28,000.
