AT AN age when most are focusing on enjoying life, New Zealand reinsman Matt Anderson is doing his best to enrich the lives of others.

A strong believer in charity, Anderson is a huge advocate of the Ronald McDonald House to the point he donates a chunk of his wages each year to the cause.

Having lost family members to cancer, Anderson described his charitable nature as a “no brainer”.

“I’ve had family pass away from cancer, so it’s no brainer to help out,” the 24-year-old said. “I donate all my driving fees over a certain period to help those feeling the effects of cancer.

“So for the next two months my fees will be going to charity.”

Anderson’s latest charity drive coincides with his first Trans Tasman campaign as a New Zealand representative in the Australasian Young Drivers’ Championship, which is being conducted throughout Western Australia.

Although he hasn’t enjoyed much luck in the first three races of the tournament, Anderson is in a strong position to reverse the trend at Pinjarra today.

The impressive young man will partner Im Rockaria, which is the short-priced favourite in the first of two heats.

Boasting four wins and two seconds from seven starts, the son of Rocknroll Hanover is expected to lead throughout from barrier three.

“It’s a very please draw and horse, so hopefully I can get a win and some valuable points on the board,” Anderson said. “I haven’t had much luck so far, so this may point me in the right direction.”

Anderson’s second drive on the program – Jasper Casper - will require plenty of luck from the outside of the second line.

“I will have to drive him quietly and hope to finish as well as possible,” Anderson said. “Obviously it’s nice to try and get the wins, but I am loving it over here and being part of the series.

“It’s been a brilliant time with a great bunch of people.”
