Harness Racing South Australia (HRSA) advises participants of national rule amendments that have been approved for implementation in South Australia from 1 November 2016. Participants are required to familiarise themselves with the amendments.
REVISED THRESHOLD FOR COBALT – URINE AND PLASMA
The urine threshold for cobalt will be lowered from 200 micrograms per litre (ug/L) to 100 ug/L.
A plasma threshold of 25 ug/L will also be implemented.
Effective 1 November 2016, Australian Harness Racing Rule (AHRR) 188A(2)(k) states:
The following substances when present at or below the levels set out are excepted from the provisions of subrule (1) and Rule 190AA:
(k) Cobalt at a concentration at or below 100 micrograms per litre in urine or 25 micrograms per litre in plasma
GEAR ACTIVATION BY FOOT
Drivers have the option to use their foot to activate gear, or alternatively they can continue to activate gear by hand.
Drivers are reminded that when using their foot to activate gear, their foot should not be placed in vicinity of the hind leg of a horse or make contact or attempt to make contact with a horses’ hind leg.
Effective 1 November 2016, AHRR 170(1) states:
A driver shall, throughout the course of a race, drive with both feet in the rests of the sulky, unless he is activating approved gear
