The next crop of leading trots trainers and drivers were given their first sit in a sulky when Gippsland Harness Training Centre held court at the Job Skills Expo at Lardner Park.

Hosting a stall that included a sulky and a helmet-cam replay of a winning Jodi Quinlan drive, the centre, in association with Community College Gippsland, raised awareness its programs and the sport, manager Jenni Lewis said.

"We've had a sulky set up and a bit of an activity scene, so with the reins they can jump in the sulky and have a bit of an idea about what it is like to drive a horse," she said. "We've found these expos have been great to raise awareness of the harness racing industry in general in Victoria.

"We've had a lot of who have come to our centre who have never had experience in our industry before. When they come and start working with our horses and learning how they can really be hands on in our industry compared to some of the other equestrian industries they love it and they just really get hooked."
