STEWARDS INQUIRY – DRIVER TODD RATTRAY
The Office of Racing Integrity Stewards conducted an inquiry into a series of bets placed by Mr Todd Rattray on a betting account held by him between October 2015 and March 2016 on horses which he drove.
Mr Rattray pleaded guilty to a charge under AHHR 173(1) which states that a driver shall not bet in a race in which the driver participates.
In determining penalty, Stewards considered the following –
- Mr Rattray’s guilty plea and forthright evidence;
- Mr Rattray’s personal circumstances;
- That this was Mr Rattray’s first offence under the rule;
- The rules relating to driver’s betting in races have been in force in Tasmania since March 2006;
- Penalty precedents in this and other racing jurisdictions; and
- That any penalty act as a significant deterrent to other industry participants.
Mr Rattray was fined the sum of $2,000, of which $1,000 is suspended for a period of two (2) years in that he not re-offend under this rule.
Mr Rattray was advised of his rights of appeal.
