Bankstown’s Treuer Memorial, the club’s feature race of the year is fast approaching with the event set down for Friday December 4.  Club President Les Bentley is pleased to see the race elevated from Group 3 status to Group 2 this year and still is hoping to see the former Grand Circuit race return to a Group 1 event in the near future.

“This year we have been able to boost the prize money from $30,000 to $50,000 and I would love to see it return to $100,000 and plans have been put in place by the Club to see that happen,” Bentley said.

“Bankstown hasn’t had a race meeting for some time but we’ve put a lot of resources into the big meeting on Friday week and we’re looking forward to a good crowd and a strong field for the Treuer.”

The race was dominated by the John McCarthy trained Washakie over a five year period recently and was won by the Ashlee Grives trained Lochinver in 2014.

“It is traditionally a good meeting for the Club and we have planned all of the regular attractions for the children that come along with their parents.

“There will be face painting, a jumping castle, Santa Claus will drop in and have something for the kids as well plus we will also be running a raffle with all of the proceeds to go to Jim Webb, a Bankstown trainer that suffered horrific injuries in a trackwork fall earlier in the year.”

The Schweppes Sydney Cup will also be run on Friday December 4.

“Schweppes have been a great supporter of the Club again and they will be the sponsor for the Sydney Cup this year, it is a race for C1 or better pacers over the 2140 metres.”

Nominations for Bankstown’s Treuer Memorial meeting on Friday December 4 will close on Monday November 30 at 9:30am.
