Yankee Rockstar produced a 1:55.2 win at Ballarat on Friday night in his first race appearance since finishing seventh in last season’s Chariots of Fire.

The son of Rocknroll Hanover/Aston Villa was taken off the arm early by driver Gavin Lang in the 2200-metre Old England Hotel Heidelberg Pace before launching at the quarter pole and out-sprinting early pacesetter Jaccka Art in the straight.

The final quarter was 28.1secs but Yankee Rockstar came from last and made up 10m out four-wide before winning by 3.3m, so his final section would have been closer to 27.

Winning trainer Emma Stewart will be hoping for more success tomorrow night with another classy five-year-old when Another Safari lines up in the Group 2 City of Melton Plate at Tabcorp Park Melton.
