Father and daughter Kimberly and Anthony Butt will drive in the Mildura Drivers Championship on October 3.
A selection of Australasia’s best trots drivers will make the pilgrimage to Mildura on AFL Grand Final Night, Saturday October 3, for the annual Invitation Drivers Championships.
Two-time Championship winner Amy Tubbs is unavailable to defend the crown she won in 2013 and 2014 at Mildura, but it means there will be a new reinsman or reinswoman reigning supreme this time around.
The benefits for trainers entering horses in the four series races are twofold.
Firstly, the races will be penalty free and worth $7000 each.
Secondly, you’ll get one of either Chris Alford (Vic), Michael Bellman (Vic), Mark Billinger (SA), Anthony Butt (Vic), Kimberly Butt (NZ), Leah Harvey (SA), Gavin Lang (Vic), Kerryn Manning (Vic), Lisa Miles (Vic) and Jodi Quinlan (Vic).
“We’re hoping many trainers outside the district will decide to target these penalty-free $7000 races and hopefully bring an extra horse or two for the other races on the night,” Mildura Manager Mark Kemp said.
The club is pulling out all stops to make the night a winner for fans, with a nine-race program and the ever-popular pony trots between races.
The club is also hoping to attract plenty of women wanting a girls’ night out, with free entry for ladies, plus perfume testing and pampering upstairs.
The first floor dining packages cost $35 and ladies receive a free wine on arrival and a $5 TAB voucher. And the first 50 kids on course will receive a sweets bag.
Book early to avoid disappointment on 03 5023 2454 or email mark@milduraharness.org.au
** Trainer’s note: Nominations for the big Mildura meeting close at noon on Tuesday September 29.
