Harness Racing Victoria and RSPCA officials attended two properties of registered harness racing trainers in rural Victoria today in relation to allegations that individual horses were not being looked after and needed care and attention.

“Harness Racing Victoria takes very seriously any allegations involving animal welfare, including claims of horses not being appropriately cared for or not treated in accordance with community and harness racing expectations,” said HRV General Manager – Integrity Andy Rogers.

The Investigation into one of the stables is concluded with all horses found to be the subject of appropriate care and attention.   The remaining stable will continue to be closely monitored by RSPCA and HRV officials.

The HRV Integrity Department will continue to monitor and take active involvement in animal welfare matters while working in close collaboration with the RSPCA.

Animal welfare is a key focus of the Harness Racing Victoria Strategic Plan 2020 Consultation document, which was released on Thursday 27th of August, 2015.

Participants are encouraged to report any animal welfare matters or concerns to HRV or the RSPCA. Email info@hrv.org.au if you have any concerns.
