MEDIA RELEASE

HRSA formally launched the upcoming harness racing season at Mt Gambier on Wednesday 26 August 2015. The racing season will run from late October 2015 until mid-March 2016 with the first race meeting of the season to be held on Friday 30 October and the last race meeting to be held on Friday 11 March 2016.

The racing season includes 10 race meetings on premium days as follows:

7 x Friday night race meetings;
1 x Saturday night race meeting: and
2 x Tuesday night race meetings.

The Mt Gambier Gold Cup will be held on Saturday 27 February 2016. The Gold Cup meeting is one of the best attended race meetings of any code in South Australia, and another great racing program and bumper crowd is expected again in 2016. Both Tuesday night race meetings will be held over the premium Christmas holiday period - Tuesday 29 December 2015 and Tuesday 12 January 2016.

HRSA Chairman, Mark Carey stated that the 2015/16 racing season at Mt Gambier promises to be one of the most eagerly anticipated for many years. He stated that HRSA had consulted closely with the Club Committee regarding harness racing in the South East. This has resulted in some important changes including the dis-continuation of Sunday racing, increasing the number of Friday night race meetings and ensuring that the Tuesday night race meetings were held over the Christmas holiday period.

Mr Carey stated that he is also delighted to announce that prizemoney levels will increase by a total of $40,000 for the ten race meetings for the 2015/16 Season. He stated that this recognises the importance of harness racing in the South East and the outstanding work of the Committee in promoting racing in the region.

Mr Carey also stated that HRSA are delighted to announce that UBET have been secured as a new major sponsor of the Mt Gambier Harness Racing Club.
