Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) announced today the nominations for the 2015 WA Harness Horse of the Year.

The winners of the WA Harness Horse of the Year will be announced at the Awards Luncheon at Frasers Restaurant, King’s Park, starting at 12.00pm on Sunday, 25th October.

Among the finalists for Harness Horse of the Year, and Aged Mare of the Year is last years’ 3YO Filly of the Year Libertybelle Midfrew, with wins in the Group 1 Golden Nugget and Group 3 WASBA Breeders Stakes. Trainer, Mike Reed commented “I’m thrilled to train a filly like her, she has done it against the boys and deserves the nomination.”

David Hercules is nominated for Horse of the Year for the second year running with wins in the Group 1 Fremantle Pacing Cup and Group 2 Village Kid Sprint cementing his place. His trainer David Thompson stated, “I’m absolutely stoked and chuffed over his nomination and I hope he is hard to beat.”

Highlights in the 2YO categories include Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Sprinter, up against Group 1 Pearl Classic champion Rich Yankee and Group 1 winners Johnny Disco and Rocknroll Whitby (2YO Colt or Gelding); and Group 1 WestBred Classic winner Dodolicious taking on fellow Group 1 winners Bethany Aitch and Bettor Bling (2YO Filly).

Voting will be finalised following the running of the Australasian Breeders Crown in Victoria next month. A full list of nominees in the various categories (in alphabetical order) are tabled below.

Tickets to the luncheon cost $140pp or $1,300 for a Table of 10 and can be purchased by contacting Suzy Jackson: racingevents@rwwa.com.au or (08) 9445 5137.
