EMPIRE STALLIONS SUPER SERIES

Maryborough (Thurs), 12.28pm: Race 1 – 2YO FILLIES 1st HEAT

Robert Watson says Soho Madeleine is “pretty special”.

The West Australian harness racing supporter, who owns a large team of horses with several stables throughout the country, said Soho Madeleine’s last-start win at Maryborough was full of merit.

“You just have to see that last start, the way she circled the field, it really showed what she’s capable of,” he said.

Soho Madeleine (by Bettors Delight out of Magic Maddy Lombo) lines up tomorrow at Maryborough in the first heat of the Empire Stallions Vicbred Super Series for two-year-old fillies from barrier seven over 2190m.

Trained by Belinda McCarthy and driven by Luke McCarthy, the full sister to New South Wales champion Suave Stuey Lombo has already shown plenty of promise, winning a heat of the Gold Tiara before running third in the final from an extreme back-row draw.

“She should be hard to beat in the Vicbred, unless (Mark) Purdon has one hidden away somewhere,” Watson quipped.

Watson also races Soho Lexington, who is in at Mildura tonight in the first heat of the 2YO Colts and Geldings Vicbred Super Series for trainer/driver Michael Stanley, and Soho Tribeca, who upstaged The Sparrow Hawk at Cranbourne on Sunday.

“The team’s going well,” he said.

Soho Madeleine comes up against last-start Vicbred Platinum Home Grown Classic winner Whirily School tomorrow, the Emma Stewart-trained daughter of Courage Under Fire/Mayhappen winning four out of five races to date.

Others in the Maryborough heat tomorrow are Whenthegroundshook for Larry Eastman and Chris Alford, Courageous Call for Gary Quinlan and Nathan Jack, Diamond Jasper for Paul Grech, Tricka Treat Lombo for David Miles and Kenfury Lass for David Van Ryn and Haydon Gray.
