HRSA Stewards have finalised the adjourned inquiry from Race 5 at Globe Derby on 30 March 2015 into the driving of Shane Loone after the race.
Shane Loone was found guilty of a charge under Rule 168(1) which reads:
A person shall not before, during or after a race drive in a manner which in the opinion of the Stewards is careless, reckless, incompetent, intimidatory, improper, foul or likely to endanger persons or horses.
The particulars being that after the race, while the horses and drivers were pulling up in the back straight, Shane Loone drove in an improper manner by approaching driver Michael Smith, verbally abusing him, and then deliberately striking Michael Smith with the whip, making contact with his helmet. Shane Loone then held his whip in front of the face of Michael Smith, in an attempt to intimidate him.
Shane Loone was disqualified for 3 months, and following that disqualification, had his drivers licenced suspended for a further 3 months.
Shane Loone has lodged an appeal and has been granted a stay of proceedings.
