Much improved two-year-old Cosmos Art has been a
satisfying success story for Cranbourne trainer Jayne Davies, regardless of his
placing in Sunday?s $190,000 Australasian Breeders Crown Final at Bendigo.
Since crossing the Nullarbor as a
maiden, the Perfect Art colt has notched three wins and two minor placings from
nine starts, most recently securing a Breeders Crown semi-final win at Lords
Raceway on Tuesday night.
?Rod Chambers quite liked the
horse early in his education, even though he didn?t win a race with him,?
Davies recalled.
?He?s getting better all the time
and we?re just rapt to have made it through to the final,? she said.
Davies recalled that Cosmos Art
was a challenge when he first arrived from Western Australia.
?I think he was going through a
growing process and to make matters worse, he was very tight in his gear,? she
said.
?They told us not to alter his
gear, but in the end we bit the bullet and let him out, and it proved to be a
turning point. Once we lowered his head and let him stride out, he was a
different horse.?
Davies said although Cosmos Art
is still a little wayward on the corners, the colt is learning with every
outing.
?I think he?ll make a really nice
three-year-old,? she predicted.
Cosmos Art led throughout to win
his Breeders Crown semi-final, following up a solid repechage performance when
he took advantage of the sprint lane in the home straight to bring up his
second career victory.
He has drawn barrier four in
Sunday?s $190,000 final and will be partnered by regular reinsman Chris Alford.
