Greg Sugars piloted Don't Hold Back to a super impressive win in the Sapling Stakes tonight.
Only six horses started in the Sapling Stakes tonight at Tabcorp Park Melton, but it will prove a memorable race.
Mario Attard trained Don’t Hold Back scored a blistering 1:53.7 win over long odds-on favourite Christmas Jolt in the $20,275 race, winning reinsman Greg Sugars hardly moving a muscle as the impressive son of Courage Under Fire – who was a superstar juvenile himself – coasted to an easy win.
“That was quite stunning … that is the best two-year-old individual display I have seen,” declared race caller Dan Mielicki.
And it wasn’t straight after the race – he admitted he’d had a think about it, taken it in and he was, put simply, blown away.
Don’t Hold Back has now won two from two after scoring an impressive debut victory at Maryborough.
Christmas Jolt, who Peter Manning declared a few weeks back “potentially the best two-year-old I’ve trained” sat parked tonight and was no match for the winner, beaten 17.9m.
Christmas Jolt has won four of his first five races and shouldn’t lose admirers on the back of tonight’s performance.
Four Starzzz Forsa was third and Itz Sportz Torque fourth.
