The Bathurst Harness Racing Club has just announced that Chris Alford has accepted their invitation to be the 2015 Gold Crown Honouree.  Alford will be inducted into the ranks of the Gold Crown Honourees during this year’s Carnival at a Mayoral Dinner on Thursday 26 March.

In making the announcement Bathurst Harness Racing Club President Mark Collins was delighted that Alford had accepted.

“Chris Alford is an industry legend and so will sit comfortably within the ranks of our Gold Crown Honourees,” Collins said.

“Chris Alford is the most successful driver in Gold Crown History having won nine of our big finals including 2 Gold Crowns, 3 Gold Tiaras, 1 Gold Chalice and 3 Gold Bracelets.” Collins added.

“He has also won 100 plus races across Australia every year since 1993/94 as well as 12 Grand Circuit and 29 Group 1 races including the pinnacle of harness racing, the Inter Dominion Final on Golden Reign in 1995.”

Collins went on to point out that there was much more to Alford’s nomination than his on track success.

‘’Following the diagnosis of his daughter Katie with Neurofibramotsis (NF), Chris and his wife Alison have been doing outstanding work in raising awareness of the condition and raising bucket loads of money for research into a cure.”

“We are absolutely delighted that Chris Alford has accepted our invitation to be our Gold Crown Honouree.”

“His contribution to the industry as whole, this carnival in particular and the community at large ensures he sits very comfortably in those esteemed ranks” Collins concluded.
