Robert Morris has been selected as the New South Wales representative in the 2015 Australasian Young Drivers Championship to be held in New Zealand in May this year
Twenty three year old reinsman Robert Morris has been selected as the New South Wales representative in the 2015 Australasian Young Drivers Championship to be held in New Zealand in May this year. Morris has driven in more than 4800 races in his career and has won in excess of 660 of those since his first race drive on January 4th 2008.
“It is a massive thrill for me to be selected to represent my state against the best young drivers from Australia and New Zealand,” Morris said.
“It is a good reward for all of the hard work and in a sport where there are very few opportunities to represent your state and country, I am very proud to be the New South Wales representative.”
The series will be conducted at Cambridge, Alexandra Park, Addington and Timaru from May 7-10.
“I have never had the opportunity to drive in New Zealand and it is something I have always wanted to do so I am looking forward to it plus I have never driven in a race where they run clockwise so that will be something new for me at Alexandra Park.”
“The last twelve months have been tougher than previous years because of the leg injury I sustained but I still managed to drive 103 winners for the season which was always my goal.”
Morris was sidelined from April 25 until August 5 last year but returned to the sulky to drive fourteen winners in three weeks to finish the season in strong form.
“I was lucky enough to win the NSW Rising Stars series for junior drivers in 2009 but this experience will take everything to the next level.”
HRNSW CEO John Dumesny congratulated Morris on his selection and wished him the best of luck later in the year.
“Robbie is not only a good young driver but is a strong contributor to the promotion of the industry and deserves the opportunity to represent the state of New South Wales.” Dumesny said
Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) is the controlling body for harness racing in New South Wales with responsibility for commercial and regulatory management of the industry including 31 racing clubs across the State. HRNSW is headed by an industry-appointed Board of Directors and is independent of Government.
