The harness racing industry was saddened yesterday with the passing of industry stalwart Sam Tinman.
Mr Tinman who was 86 was a lifelong resident of Glebe and enjoyed playing host to the immortals of the track during the halcyon days of trotting at Harold Park.
At anytime during the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s the interstate and country champions of the era would be stabled at Sammy’s. It was the place to be.
The legendary Victorian trainer George Gath (Delvin Dancer) called Glebe home on his many raids but there was a truly fond bond with the Harpleys of the Riverina which Sam would always recall.
“The best of the best James Darren was stable at home” Sam would often tell his mates old and particularly new during the latter years of Harold Park.
Sam Tinman rarely missed a meeting at the iconic Glebe circuit before its closed in 2010.
HRNSW and the entire industry expresses its collective condolences to Mr Tinman’s widow Anne.
Funerals arrangements have not been finalised for Mr Tinman.
Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) is the controlling body for harness racing in New South Wales with responsibility for commercial and regulatory management of the industry including 31 racing clubs across the State. HRNSW is headed by an industry-appointed Board of Directors and is independent of Government.
