Grinfromeartoear, sire of Lot 10 at the annual Garrards 2YO Trialling Sale at Tabcorp Park, Menangle, on Sunday, December 7.
Riverina horseman Brett Hogan, a builder by trade, is working on solid foundations with two fillies he has prepared for the annual Garrards 2YO Trialling Sale at Tabcorp Park, Menangle, on Sunday, December 7.
Hogan has a 10-acre property at Wagga, but he's been a 'Travelling Man' with his fillies, Lot 4 (Armbro Operative-Montana Jane) and Lot 10 (Grinfromeartoear-Running In The Rain).
"They're experienced travellers - they go into the Wagga track a couple of times a week, they've been across to Norm Jerrick's place, and to Bruce Harpley's, as well as having gone to the Junee Showgrounds multiple times, and the unofficial trials there."
The fillies, who have been behind the mobile, are "ready to go," according to Hogan, who added that Trial day won't be "Grand Final day" for them.
Hogan, whose influences have included noted young horse conditioners Bruce Harpley and Bernie Kelly, said his fillies have been brought along without a stopwatch, and that education has been his aim.
"The 'Grin' filly goes in an open bridle and is strong, while the 'Operative' is athletic," he said.
The Armbro Operative filly, out of a 2:00.4 mare, is a half-sister to Cuzin Judd (1:56.4), a 16-time winner in the west, including Gloucester Park, while the Grinfromeartoear half-sister to Chester Cannonball (four wins), is out of a five-time winning Panorama mare, thus bred on the same cross as Australasian Breeders' Crown 2YO champion, Smiling Shard, and New South Wales Derby star, Make Me Smile.
Meanwhile, for the first time, three trotters will trial individually, then be auctioned on sale day.
The trotters are an Aldebaran Yankee colt (prepared on track by Rickie Alchin), a Yankee Paco gelding (prepared by Graham Smith at Melton, Victoria) and an Armbro Invasion filly (prepared by Dave Garbutt in Victoria).
Alchin, also represented by a large pacing draft, reports "huge interest" in his colt (Lot 23) from a multiple-placed half-sister to Australasian 2YO Trotter of the Year, My Missindependent.
Smith's gelding (Lot 24), bred on the same 'cross' as Lyn McPherson Memorial and Aldebaran Starlet winner, Class Of Her Own, is out of the winning mare, My Miss Peko.
Garbutt's filly is the first foal of a winning half-sister to the listed 2YO Victorian Maori Legend winner, Continentalclassic, with the grand-dam, Sun Jewel, having won six races on the trot, as well as finishing third in the Group One NSW Trotters Oaks.
