On Sunday 30 November 2014 Mount Gambier will commence racing with a 135 metre sprint lane.  The progressive move was made by the Mount Gambier Harness Racing Club in an effort to attract more horses to race at the track.

The Mount Gambier track has long been considered a ‘leaders track’ which has influenced both betting and racing.  A sprint lane will create a better racing opportunity for all horses and provide increased betting turnover, in a move that is supported by Harness Racing SA.

“The Committee is very appreciative of the support of club people in getting the sprint lane established in under a week, to enable it to be used at our first meeting.  “It’s a great step forward for our Club, and will provide a spectacle for patrons and punters”, Phil Wood, President said.  “The track has been recently resurfaced and is in a very good condition for some exciting racing this weekend”.
