This Sunday in the twilight zone the Fairfield Harness Racing Club will conduct the 50th Anniversary meeting of Harness Racing at the Fairfield Showground.
In 1970 lights were erected for the first meeting. Not long thereafter traditional races were introduced including The Carousel, Golden Easter Egg and the J.D.Watts Memorial, which still remains the clubs feature event after nearly forty years.
A small of group of dedicated volunteers have kept Fairfield harness racing afloat. Colin Watts has been at Fairfield for 50 years, and President Simon Boulous has been there since the eighties.
Michelle Buckley & Toni Radburn help carry the load while the friends of Fairfield pitch in such as Allan Brennan, Glen Pearce, Jeff Towers and Steven Collins. And of course club Secretary Ross Scherf who controls the operation.
Seven races will be conducted this Sunday with the first event scheduled for 5:05pm.
