The drivers chosen to represent Victoria at the inaugural Australian Driving Championship have been announced as Chris Alford and Greg Sugars.

Alford drove the most winners in Australia in season 2013-14 with 295, while Sugars was the second Victorian on the ladder with 257 winners.

The inaugural Championship, designed to assemble the best drivers in fierce competition with one another, will be held at Globe Derby in South Australia on Saturday night, October 18.

Twelve drivers from each state controlling body will compete for the title of Australian Driving Champion, accumulating points across the six-race series.

The performances of the drivers at the Australian Drivers Championship will be factored in when choosing drivers to compete at the World Driving Championships, which is conducted every second year.

The World Driving Championships will be held in New South Wales in 2015.

Harness Racing Victoria CEO John Anderson congratulated Alford and Sugars and wished them well for the upcoming Championship.
