Champion reinsman Gavin Lang will head to Mildura this Saturday night for the annual Drivers Invitation Championship.

Mildura is all set for what should be a cracking Saturday night of trots action this weekend.

The weather bureau says Mildura will hit a high of 26 degrees on Saturday, setting the scene for a brilliant night out at the trots.

This Saturday night’s meeting – a great way to celebrate the night of the AFL Grand Final – will take on “girls’ night out” theme with a perfume-testing and pampering section being set up by the local Mildura My Chemist, while prizes valued at $500, $250 and $150 will be won by women on course.

On-track the action will be first rate with the best drivers from around Australia to contest the Drivers Invitation Championship.

Chris Alford, Nathan Jack, Gavin Lang, Kerryn Manning, Lisa Miles, Jodi Quinlan, Amy Tubbs and South Australia’s Danielle Hill will battle it out with West Australian whiz Gary Hall Jr and hometown hero Shayne Cramp in the invitation-only series.

The 10 drivers participating in the series have collectively won 21,739 races for prize money totaling a mind-blowing $159,377,088.

“We’ve got a lot of firsts for the club on the night,” said Mildura Harness Racing Club manager Mark Kemp.

“We’ve got the pampering setup being run by My Chemist for the ladies and we’ve also got the punters club to be run on the night, and when you buy a punters club ticket for $20 you also get a $10 TAB voucher.”

Dining packages are available for just $30 per person, with women admitted free.

Upstairs, women will receive a free glass of wine on arrival and a $5 TAB voucher.

There will be pony trots on the night, kicking off their new season following races one and two.

Meanwhile, a service to stallion Alta Christiano has been offered to the clubs of the northern region – Mildura, Ouyen and Nyah – by sponsor of the invitation driving series, Alabar Bloodstock.

The service is being auctioned with all proceeds to be applied to prize money for the Northern Region Championship, which will be held later in the season.

Tender forms can be obtained from the Mildura Harness Racing Club on 5023 2454 or email mark@milduraharness.org.au

Tenders close 5pm this Friday.
