Currently, trainers in Victoria are permitted to drive a horse in a race that they do not train if the horse they do train is not eligible for the race without the use of a concession claim.

Effective from 1 October 2014, this will no longer be allowed* and owners and trainers will be required to adhere to the provisions of Australian Rule of Harness Racing 152 concerning driving priorities.

Trainers should also note that the definition of a trainer under this rule includes a person temporarily in charge of a horse in the trainers absence.

* With the exception of a Drivers Invitation Race/Series where drivers are allocated by random ballot.
