Harness Racing Victoria can confirm this morning media reports that a much-loved industry participant in Danielle Lewis tragically lost her life yesterday at Cranbourne Harness Racing Training Centre.
Danielle was a highly respected and talented young woman, who at 28 years old had so much more still to offer.
The circumstances surrounding Danielle’s death remain the subject of a police and coroner’s investigation and as such HRV is not able to shed any light on the circumstances.
However, it is a tragic loss to the industry as a whole and HRV passes on our sincerest condolences to Danielle’s family and friends.
HRV CEO John Anderson said Danielle’s passion for harness racing was unrivalled.
“Danielle’s great passion in life was for training horses,” Mr Anderson said.
“It’s a tragic loss for the industry and my sympathies go out to the tight-knit Cranbourne harness racing community, who had to deal with this awful tragedy yesterday.
“HRV will announce further tributes to Danielle as the week progresses.”
HRV has until this morning not been able to confirm Danielle’s passing at the request of Victoria Police.
Drivers will wear black armbands throughout this week as a mark of respect to Danielle.
