The South Australian Mares Owner’s Scheme (SAMOS) run by HRSA will continue for the 2014-15 season. Over the last couple of years there have been some adjustments made to the scheme, including increasing the number of certificates a mare can win to four and restricting certificates on interstate owned mares to horses trained in SA.

Once again this year HRSA has made a couple of changes to the conditions:

  • Broodmare owners will now be restricted to using up to two certificates in a stud season. It is hoped that this will lead to more foals being bred overall.
  • To offset this condition, the expiry date of 5 years on the certificates has been eased. The broodmares certificates will now expire 5 full stud seasons after a mare is retired from racing.

HRSA has been made aware that some studs are offering different deals with regard to the certificates. We advise that the studs should be taking $1,000 of the advertised price for a stallion for each certificate as a minimum. Should you have any queries regarding this please contact the HRSA office

The full list of conditions and the list of participating studs is now on the website or from the HRSA office.
