Marburg Trots This Saturday!

Marburg Pacing Association hosts a non-TAB meeting this Saturday with the 1st race set down for decision at 12.45pm. The day kicks off with official barrier trials from 11.15am and the gates open at 9.30am. On course bookmakers will be fielding on the local trotting and Sky Channel galloping fixtures.

The Ipswich / Lockyer Valley harness racing participants and hobby breeders are the backbone of the Queensland harness racing scene with the major players regularly winning at the major TAB meetings and continually supporting the Marburg races with the same vigour.

Some of the best young drivers in the State are Ipswich / Lockyer Valley locals and have used Marburg as a stepping stone for their careers. These include Pete McMullen and his sisters, Narissa and Dannielle, while brothers Nathan and Mitchell Dawson are among the current favourites of the Marburg betting public. Although not driving at this meeting owing to a suspension, Nathan Dawson will be crowned the leading junior and leading overall driver in the 2013/14 Season at Marburg.

The local stars are not all youngsters, with the father of local trotting, Max Towns producing the winners when it counts. Towns prepares Take Seven, who has a stranglehold on the Horse Of The Year Title and looks to have that title safely in his keeping. Max and his son Brett have been brilliant in their support of the MPA since inception and deserve all the rewards that come their way.

Once a month race meetings are scheduled for the rest of the year. October will see the running of the annual Graham Harriott Memorial Trot on October 11, dedicated to the memory of our past President who had a great passion for the square-gaiters and the people who raced them.

Our October 11 meeting coincides with the 2014 Marburg Black Snake Festival in the town’s centre, just a 5 minute stroll from the track. This is a great lead-up to the afternoon’s harness racing at the Marburg Showgrounds starting at1pm. There is no better day to head west of the city and take in some famed country hospitality and enjoy a great day out.
