Always A Show for Garrard Classic

Always A Show, an impressive Launceston winner last Sunday, may be mainland-bound.

Trainer-driver Craig Hayes, from Stowport, does not hide his opinion of the colt, by first season imported sire, Always A Virgin.

Victorian-bred by Greg Fusinato, Always A Show finished an unlucky second on debut before racing wide for a strong win last weekend.

"I'm not surprised that he beat them the way he did," Hayes said. "I'm not one to get carried away, but I said before the race he'd just put 'em away from outside the leader, which he did."

Hayes is planning a two-State, two-start mainland jaunt with the apple of his eye.

"I'm planning to race at Kilmore in the middle of August, then hopefully head up to Sydney with him," he said.

"He's eligible for the inaugural C.J. Garrard Classic at Tabcorp Park, Menangle, having been sold at the annual two-year-old trialling sale there last December.

"We liked to concept of the sale, being able to see them up-and- running before you bid, and he's proven a super buy.

"I've heard so much about this State-of-the-Art complex at Menangle that it would be great to have a starter there with a realistic chance.

"James Rattray has done so well, of course, since moving there, and I'd be anxious to catch up with him, as well."

Always A Show is one of a fast-growing number of last year's trialling sale graduates to have won in fine style.

Others in the running for the C.J. Garrard Classic include stablemates Santana Dream and The Marshall, Victorian Sires Stakes heat winner, Morior Invictus, dual winners Miss Nickels and Right On With It and winners Got The Scoop, Gotta Glow, Swift Approval, Three Dee Delight, Redbank Harry and Wegottarocketmachine.

The sale in previous years produced such notables as Australasia's former fastest three-year-old, Iam Mr Brightside (1:51.6), his stablemate Zenable (1:51.2), Im Supersonic (1:52) and My Mate Stride (1:53.7).

Some 50 present yearlings, rising two-year-olds, have been catalogued for this year's Garrards 2YO Trialling Sale, which will again be held at Tabcorp Park, Menangle, in early December.
