Niki No No and Greg Sugars come away for victory.
Niki No No gave on-course MC Rob Auber a huge thrill tonight, winning the Empire Stallions Vicbred Super Series two-year-old fillies’ final at Tabcorp Park Melton.
Auber is one of the owners in the Kari Males-trained Sportswriter filly, who toiled in the breeze early, eventually worked to the lead and then still had enough left to hold off all comers at the finish.
Niki No No, driven by Greg Sugars, was panels ahead of her nearest rivals in this series, because her semi-final win a week ago was equally as gutsy as tonight’s performance.
After posting a quick first split of 28.8secs, punters who took the short odds about Niki No No might have been breaking into a sweat despite the chilly conditions.
A 32.4secs second quarter however gave Niki No No some respite before she came home in 58.9secs for the last half to hold off Viva Safari, driven by Michael Azzopardi, by 3.6m, with Yankee Showgirl third for Chris Alford.
