Queen of Pop wins Australian Pacing Gold Final

MASTER reinsman Chris Alford secured his fifth Australian Pacing Gold Final when winning the two-year-old fillies’ edition with Queen Of Pop at Tabcorp Park Menangle today.

Golden Reign kicked it all off for him winning back in 1992 and Alford has since won the race with Espeshlimade Lombo (2001), Lombo La Fe Fe (2002) and Amongst Royalty (2006).

“I’ve had a lot of luck in this race and driven some nice horses and I think Queen Of Pop is going to become one of those nice horses,” Alford said.

Queen Of Pop caused a minor boilover at odds of $31.10 when claiming the $322,000 Group One, beating the favourites Supersonic Miss and Rosie Oreilly, who both finished unplaced.

The daughter of Art Major held out a fast-finishing Soho Tokyo by a neck with Bamako Mali in third, clocking 1:57.4.

It gave Alford his second win of the day as he also took out the APG Consolation with Rebel Diamond.

“I’ve had a rough couple of weeks at Menangle recently and I’d like to thank the track for being good to me today,” Alford said.

Queen Of Pop was bred and is owned by Lauriston Bloodstock, who also bred and owned the $2.50 second elect Rosie Oreilly.

Out of the mare Top Tempo, Queen Of Pop is a half-sister to the 2012 APG Final winner Musical Delight.
