The Alford family have a special link to NF and the Childrens Tumour Foundation.
It’s been a massive industry effort but finally the first ever TAB.com.au Charity Footy match is set to go this Sunday at the Melton South Football ground on Reserve Road.
Patrons can come along to watch some of the stars of the trots take to a different sport when they line up on the field.
With four teams having been pulled together – Ballarat, Melton, Shepparton and Bendigo – the competition is set to be fierce for the Renown Silverware Perpetual Cup.
But fun that ensues on the field will be followed by a buffet dinner back at Tabcorp Park Melton.
The $40 entry fee will not only secure the buffet dinner but also a sausage sizzle during the day for lunch.
The day is in support of Neurofibromatosis and the Children’s Tumour Foundation, a cause which has been championed by leading reinsman Chris Alford whose daughter suffers from the disease.
Robbie O’Connell has been the driving force behind the idea and spoke earlier this week about the importance that the sponsors have played in getting the day up and running.
“We just can’t thank everyone enough, from the TAB to Alabar stud, Renown Silverware and Seelite Windows and Doors there are just too many too name,” O’Connell said.
“Everyone has been willing to chip in to help the great cause and hopefully we can have some fun out on the ground and enjoy the night back at Tabcorp Park.”
There will also be a raffle on for those in attendances with a bevy of prizes on offer including an historic signed Essendon football with all the players’ signatures from this year.
Tickets can be purchased on the day and it will be a great day to socialise with a large contingent of trotting royalty who are ready to enjoy the festivities.
