Champion reinswoman Kerryn Gath last night piloted her
200th winner for the fifth consecutive season.
The nation's premier harness racing
driver achieved the feat at Terang leading throughout to win the third race
with odds-on favourite Slick Move.
Slick Move, a three-year-old filly, is trained by her
father Peter Manning on behalf of Western Australian owner Ross Torre.
Gath has now firmly set her sights on her own world
record for wins in a season by a female driver, a mark she set at 371 last
season.
On her current average of 0.97 winners per day, the
27-year-old is on target for 354 wins by 31 August, but believes she can
improve on that figure barring any unforseen setbacks.
After piloting her first winner on 27 May 1993 at
Ararat, the petite dynamo has landed a further 1662 wins in a stellar career
that has included Group victories in three countries.
Her haul of 'double tons' commenced in the 1999/2000
season when she won 246 races, falling just five wins shy of the nation's
premier driver, fellow Victorian Chris Alford.
She has since captured the past three Australian
Drivers' Premierships with hauls of 288, 272 and 371 and is well clear in her
bid for a fourth consecutive crown.
Headlining her feature race
haul thus far in 2003/04 is her memorable Australian Pacing Gold 3YO Final
double with Blatant Lie (colts) and Yada Yada Yada (fillies).
