The Victorian Metropolitan Trainer’s Premiership is one of the most sought after awards by any trainer who has a good horse or three running around at Tabcorp Park.

Not only is it prestigious, the award more often than not goes down to the wire, with plenty of fire power coming through this part of the season.
Last year the award was hotly contested with Glenn Douglas holding off David Aiken and Lance Justice in the final weeks of the season to be two wins clear.
Justice has sprung out of the blocks this season and is the early leader on 21 winners from Geoff Webster on 15.
Taylors have come on board as sponsors of the Metropolitan Trainers Premiership this year and Nick Hooper, who is a partner at the company, explained how it all started for him.
“I started following the trots over 20 years ago; it was probably around 1989 or 1990 when I got involved in the sport,” Hooper said.
“When the trots were at Moonee Valley I had a mate that went every Saturday night and he invited me along one night and I was hooked.
“I started as a punter then ended up taking a share in a lease of a horse but since then I’ve part-owned a dozen or 15 horses and expanded into writing for Harness Racing International and I’ve written a book called Stallions.”
His long association with the trots was the driving force behind getting his multi-faceted urban development consultancy involved in sponsorship.
With the highly rated award often making headlines towards the end of the season he convinced the team to get involved in what could be a classic finish this year.
Hooper explained that Taylors have experience consulting on projects not only in and around Melton, but also in all growth areas of Melbourne and in a variety of project capabilities.
“We provide services in town planning, land surveying, urban design, architectural design and civil engineering. We are based in Victoria but we also do work across the country and internationally,” he said.
“We’ve also been active with the Eynesbury estate and Peppermint Grove which are significant developments in and around Melton.”
