Fearless Rose secured trainer John Geary with his first win at Tabcorp Park Menangle last Sunday afternoon.
Sydney trainer John Geary is no stranger to the winners stall but finally brought up his first Tabcorp Park Menangle victory on Sunday when Fearless Rose proved too strong in the first race. Geary enjoyed success at Harold Park previously but was happy to finally breakthrough at Sydney’s new home of harness racing.
“I won a fair few at Harold Park but then I gave the sport away for a number of years however my kids Belinda and Christopher were driving me mad to get involved with the horses so I decided to have another go on a much smaller scale,” Geary said.
“Fearless Rose isn’t brilliant and really she isn’t a Menangle horse but when they put on a race for trainers that hadn’t won a race at the track I thought it might be her chance to win one, she goes a lot better at a track like Newcastle and that’s probably where I will try and get another win with her before she is retired.”
Geary targeted Sunday’s race but was aiming another of his stable runners at the event until disaster struck.
“When I saw the race I thought it would be perfect for a horse called Denzel Delivers that I was training, he could work with Fearless Rose and beat her easily but unfortunately he went lame and I was forced to turn him out so Fearless Rose became the hope of the team.”
“Chris helps the McCarthys out whenever he gets the chance, he is involved in the Maxi Trots and has a horse for that series and it probably won’t be long before he starts to get his full drivers licence while Belinda isn’t into the driving but is interested in the training side of things and spends a lot of time with Lizzie Heath.”
Geary believes the best horse he has been associated with is Quivers Gold.
“I had a horse called Echo Victor and he won a number of races and had to compete against the likes of Paleface Bubble but I think my best was Quivers Gold because he finished fifth in the Victoria Derby behind Golden Reign, Young Mister Charles and Chandon and ended up going onto win 19 races in his career.”
