The 2011/12 Australian Horse of the Year, Im Themightyquinn returns to racing in the Find Thirty Everyday Mount Eden Sprint at Gloucester Park this Friday night.
The Gary Hall trained eight-year-old has not started since winning the V75 Inter Dominion from Mysta Magical Mach and Lombo Navigator in front of his adoring home crowd at the beginning of March this year.
This is Im Themightyquinn’s second preparation since his emotional victory in Australasia’s greatest race, after he sent a scare through the Hall stable in his first preparation when suffered an atrial fibrillation during a trial.
But this time in, the dual Inter Dominion winner sent a statement to his rivals that he was back ‘better than ever’ with a brilliant trial last Sunday, rating a sizzling 1.58.2 around the Byford circuit, running home in a last two quarters in 27.8 and 27.7.
“He went so well and pulled so well, I decided to start him straight away” said trainer Gary Hall Senior.
“I’ve always said that if he wasn’t one hundred percent I wouldn’t start him, but he has given every indication that he has come back as good as ever”
On Friday night, Im Themightyquinn will tackle a quality line-up, including both Inter Dominion placegetters, Mysta Magical Mach and Lombo Navigator as well as the runner-up from the 2012 SEW-Eurodrive WA Pacing Cup, Dasher VC.
Ironically Im Themightyquinn has drawn barrier seven, the same barrier he won from in both the V75 Inter Dominion Grand Final and the 2012 SEW-Eurodrive WA Pacing Cup.
Im Themightyquinn’s main targets this season will be a third successive SEW-Eurodrive WA Pacing Cup and a record fourth Yes Loans Fremantle Pacing Cup, with the Victoria Cup in December also on the agenda for the reigning Australian Horse of the Year.
